ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) _ Greg Vaughn and Jose Guillen hit two-run homers in the third inning Sunday as the Tampa Bay Devil Rays beat the Baltimore Orioles 7-4.

Both homers off Mike Mussina were preceded by walks and put the Devil Rays ahead 5-2. Vaughn homered in all three games of the series.

Baltimore closed to 5-4 on Chris Richard's two-run homer in the fourth. Richard, who went 3-for-4, also drove in a run with a second-inning grounder.

Mussina (7-11), who gave up seven runs and nine hits in 6 1-3 innings, lost for the fourth time in five starts and matched his career high for losses in one season. He went 19-11 in 1996.

Tampa Bay starter Ryan Rupe (4-4) allowed four runs and eight hits in five innings. Cory Lidle, recalled from Triple-A Durham before the game, followed with three scoreless innings.

Roberto Hernandez got three outs for his 21st save in 27 chances.

Tampa Bay has spilt the first six games of a franchise record 13-game, 13-day homestand. Baltimore fell to 18-38 on the road.

Melvin Mora had a first-inning solo homer for the Orioles. Vaughn's RBI double tied it in the bottom of the inning.

Miguel Cairo, who went 3-for-4 with two steals, extended the Tampa Bay lead to 6-4 with an RBI double in the seventh. Fred McGriff added a sacrifice fly off B.J. Ryan later in the inning.

Notes: Mussina had allowed just six homers in his previous 13 starts. ... Tampa Bay DH Jose Canseco struck out in the third inning and has fanned 1,830 times in his career. ...
