LANCASTER, Calif. (AP) — More than 1,000 birds believed to be intended for illegal cockfighting have been seized in north Los Angeles County.
The Sheriff's Department says the birds were seized when a search warrant was served Monday in Lancaster during an animal cruelty investigation involving suspected breeding and fighting.
County animal control personnel and members of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals responded to take care of the birds.
Several people were questioned, but investigators did not make any immediate arrests.
