No verdict yet in case of NC man beaten, burned at hotel

GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — Jurors have deliberated for more than two days in the case of a man charged with hitting and strangling a man he met at a bar and starting a fire next to his unconscious body in a North Carolina hotel room.
The News & Record of Greensboro reports jurors began deliberations in the trial of 29-year-old Garry Gupton late Wednesday afternoon and left Friday without a verdict.
Gupton is charged with first-degree murder and first-degree arson in the death of 46-year-old Stephen White on Nov. 15, 2014, in Greensboro. He pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. If jurors find him guilty, he could face the death penalty.
White died six days after the attack.
Deliberations are scheduled to resume Monday.
