Aug. 07, 2013
HOVE, England (AP) — Sussex has launched an investigation after England cricketer Monty Panesar was penalized by police for being drunk and disorderly following an incident in a nightclub.
Panesar was given a fixed penalty notice — effectively a fine — after urinating in public, following his ejection from the Shooshh club in Brighton early Monday.
A statement on the Sussex club website Wednesday said that "an incident took place involving Monty Panesar" and added: "the matter is under full investigation."
Panesar was included in England's 14-man squad for the third Ashes Test at Old Trafford which concluded on Monday, but did not play.
The 31-year-old spinner, who has played 48 Tests for England and taken 164 wickets, was left out of the group for the fourth Ashes Test. England has won the series.
