CHAMONIX, France (AP) _ Swiss marathon runner Pierre-Andre Gobet has broken the record for the fastest conquest of Mont Blanc, jogging up and down Western Europe's highest peak in 5 hours, 10 minutes.

Gobet, 35, needed only 3 hours, 38 minutes on Friday to reach the top of the 15,400-foot mountain, then immediately headed back down to Chamonix.

The old record of 5 hours, 29 minutes was set by Laurent Smagghe of France in July 1989.
