WICHITA, Kan. (AP) _ Steve Floral held Indiana to five hits over 7 1-3 innings as Wichita State beat the Hoosiers 4-0 Thursday in the opening round of the NCAA Midwest Regional tournament.
Floral (11-1) walked only one and had a season-high 12 strikeouts using an assortment of off-speed pitches.
Brandon Looper, Wichita State's first-team All-America reliever, held Indiana hitless and struck out two in getting the final five outs.
The Shockers (51-9) scored two runs in the first following a bunt single and stolen base by Randy Young, who then scored on a hit by Travis Wyckoff. Wyckoff advanced on a passed ball and single and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jeff Ryan.
Wichita State added runs in the second and sixth on RBI hits by Young and Wyckoff, both of whom had two hits.
Dan Ferrell (9-6) went the distance for Indiana (42-17), allowing eight hits and two walks while striking out eight.
Wichita State plays Missouri at 2:30 p.m. Friday, while Indiana was to play Delaware at 11 a.m.
