Wal-Mart parking lot shooting suspect arraigned in hospital

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (AP) — A man who police say fired a semi-automatic rifle at officers in the parking lot of a northeastern Pennsylvania shopping center has been arraigned in his hospital bed.
Luzerne County District Attorney Stefanie Salvantis says 31-year-old Scott Sargent "didn't really say much" at Tuesday's proceeding at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Wilkes-Barre.
Sargent has been hospitalized since state troopers shot him Saturday afternoon after he allegedly fired on police who were responding to reports he was firing the rifle randomly. Sargent didn't wound anyone, but he's charged with six counts of attempted murder of police who responded and lesser charges.
Online court records don't list an attorney for Sargent.
Court documents show the parking lot was crowded when Sargent opened fire, hitting a shopper's vehicle and a police officer's.
