LONDON (AP) _ Heinz-Harald Frentzen was fired Wednesday by Formula One racing team Jordan Grand Prix.

Frentzen's contract was terminated immediately, he team said in a statement. Jordan's third driver, Ricardo Zonta, will replace Frentzen for Sunday's German Grand Prix at Hockenheim.

``It has been a disappointing season for both us,'' Jordan chief executive Eddie Jordan said Wednesday. ``We had an exchange of views following the British Grand Prix and this is the outcome.''

Jordan finished seventh at Silverstone July 15 and is 11th in the drivers standings.

Frentzen said the firing came ``unexpectedly.''

``I reject the grounds given to me for the firing and I refute them energetically,'' Frentzen said in a statement, without elaborating.
