JERUSALEM (AP) _ Prime Minister Ariel Sharon called new elections, to be held within 90 days, saying Tuesday that he had no choice and accusing his former coalition partners of irresponsibility for causing his government to fall.

Sharon's coalition broke apart last week, after the moderate Labor Party quit in a dispute over funding for Jewish settlements.

``Elections at this time are not what the country needs,'' Sharon told a hastily arranged news conference at his office.
