SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — A Massachusetts man has admitted to suffocating his mother with a pillow before selling her televisions and smoking crack with friends while she lay dead in another room.

The Republican reports (http://bit.ly/1FHJmx3 ) 43-year-old Luis Rosa, of Springfield, pleaded guilty as part of an agreement on Tuesday to second degree murder in the death of 57-year-old Norma Perez.

Second-degree murder carries a life sentence in state prison. Rosa can apply for parole after nearly 23 years.

A defense lawyer says Rosa was "severely impaired by drugs" during the killing.

Rosa also pleaded guilty to carjacking and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

About a day after killing his mother, authorities say Rosa was arrested for stabbing a taxi driver with large butcher knife.
