Chicago police surrounds building where cop shot
Oct. 08, 2014
CHICAGO (AP) — Dozens of Chicago police officers, with armored cars, continue to surround an apartment building where a suspect who is believed to have shot an officer is holed up.
Police blocked streets surrounding the scene of the Tuesday shooting in Chicago's Englewood community. Authorities say building residents and nearby residences have been evacuated.
The police activity forced the shutdown of Metra commuter rail service on its southwest line and forced the rerouting of Chicago Transit Authority buses.
The wounded officer was taken to Stroger Hospital, where a spokeswoman said the officer is in stable condition.
Authorities didn't immediately reveal what led the officer to be in the area. However, Indianapolis police Lt. Chris Bailey says an Indiana man wanted for several shootings in Indianapolis may be involved in the incident.
