KINGSTON, R.I. (AP) _ Quarterback Billy Jack Haskins threw three touchdown passes to lead the University of Rhode Island to a 35-21 victory over New Hampshire in an Atlantic 10 Conference game Saturday.
Haskins, who also ran for a score, completed 30 of 40 passes for the Rams (1-1, 1-1). A senior transfer from Kentucky, where he started for two seasons, Haskins was playing his second game for Rhode Island.
Haskins broke a 14-14 halftime tie with a 20-yard toss to Manny DeSousa with 28 seconds left in the third quarter. On Rhode Island's next play, Haskins hit Karim Gibson for a 74-yard touchdown to make it 28-14 with 13:32 to play.
James Jenkins ran 62 yards for another Rhode Island touchdown to make it 35-14. He ran 144 yards on 24 carries for the day.
Jerry Azumah (19 carries, 166 yards) returned the ensuing kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown for New Hampshire (0-2, 0-2).
