NEW YORK (AP) _ Vernon Maxwell, the much-traveled guard obtained by New York in the trade that sent Patrick Ewing to Seattle, was waived Thursday by the Knicks.
Maxwell played in 47 games for the SuperSonics last season, averaging 10.9 points.
He was involved in the four-team trade that saw the Knicks receive Glen Rice from the Los Angeles Lakers and Luc Longley from the Phoenix Suns while sending Ewing to the Sonics. Among the other major players moving were Horace Grant from Seattle to Los Angeles and Chris Dudley from New York to Phoenix.
In 12 seasons, Maxwell has played for San Antonio, Houston, Philadelphia, Orlando, Charlotte, Sacramento and Seattle.
