Ammunition Depot Explodes in Aden
May. 27, 1995
ADEN, Yemen (AP) _ A chain of explosions ripped through a military ammunition depot in Aden on Saturday and there were reports that 10 people were killed.
Medical sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, said 10 bodies were recovered after the explosions in the southern Yemeni port. But a terse government statement said no one was killed.
Police are investigating the cause of the blasts at the depot near Aden airport, the Yemeni news agency Saba reported.
Aden was the stronghold of the Yemen Socialist Party, which was crushed by President Ali Abdullah Saleh's forces in a two-month civil war in 1994. The Socialists had sought to secede from Yemen years after conservative North Yemen and formerly Marxist South Yemen unified.
