NAPLES, Fla. (AP) _ Two firefighters who allegedly liked to ''see the fire trucks come'' have acknowledged lighting 28 brush fires, state forestry officials say.

Garry Allen Barfield, 28, a Division of Forestry employee, and John Walter Hunt, 36, a former Immokalee firefighter, were being held at the Collier County Jail on Thursday on charges of willfully burning land.

''They did it for the thrill of it,'' said forestry division investigator Ed Jones. ''They just liked to see the fires and see the fire trucks come.''

He said the two men acknowledged setting the fires and hiding in the brush to watch firefighters arrive.

The two were arrested Wednesday after a tip, Jones said.

He said the 28 fires were in the Lake Trafford area between September and January. He would not say if they had any connection with the 22,000-acre Golden Gate Estates fire in January that killed one forestry ranger and left four homeless.

The two men were being held in lieu of $50,000 bail, and face araignment May 15.
