LAGUNA WOODS, Calif. (AP) — Sheriff's deputies have killed a gunman in a Southern California senior community after he threatened to shoot his contractor.
Sixty-five-year-old Paul Mono was shot Tuesday and died at a hospital.
Jennifer Heflin, a real estate agent who sold Mono his home in the gated community of Laguna Woods, told KCBS-TV that she went there on Tuesday to show him new renovation plans and Mono became upset when he learned the contractor was over budget.
Heflin says Mono punched in his TV and waved a gun at her. She convinced him to put it down and fled.
The contractor, Dennis Metzler, was waiting outside. Metzler tells the Orange County Register that he heard sheriff's deputies who entered the house shouting for Mono to drop the gun, followed by gunfire.
