SAN ANTONIO (AP) _ David Robinson scored 22 points and Tim Duncan added 19 Wednesday night as the San Antonio Spurs held off the Vancouver Grizzlies 87-79.

The Spurs didn't seal the verdict until guard Jaren Jackson stole an inbounds pass in the Grizzlies' front court and drove for the layup and an 85-78 lead with 21.5 seconds to go.

Robinson added 17 rebounds for the Spurs, who improved to 3-1.

Jackson, playing more than usual for the injured Vinny Del Negro, added 15 points off the bench.

Vancouver, which beat San Antonio in three of four meetings last year, was led by Anthony Peeler's 19 points. Otis Thorpe added 16 pounds and nine rebounds.

The Grizzlies (1-3) led only once, by a point in the first half.

Despite leading most of the second half, the Spurs had trouble shaking the Grizzlies. Thorpe's layup cut the lead to 80-77 with 1:15 lead. But San Antonio kept the ball for the next 40 seconds, thanks to a couple of offensive rebounds.

Duncan's layup after a Robinson rebound put San Antonio ahead 82-77 with 33.5 seconds left.

NOTES: The Spurs are hopeful that Vinny Del Negro, who was placed on the injured list Wednesday, will miss only the minimum five games for players on the list. Del Negro sprained his right ankle Monday night in the second half against Chicago. Monty Williams started in his place.
