ALLIANCE, Ohio (AP) _ Craig Kusick passed for three touchdowns, including two to Jeremy Earp, as Wisconsin-LaCrosse defeated Mount Union 20-17 Saturday to advance to the NCAA Division III championship game.
Wisconsin-LaCrosse (13-0) will meet Rowan of New Jersey next Saturday at the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl in Salem, Va. Rowan defeated Washington & Jefferson 28-15 in the other semifinal.
Mount Union (12-1) lost its final chance for a victory with 1:30 remaining when Mike Maslowski intercepted a pass by Bill Borchert at the Wisconsin-LaCrosse 5.
All the scoring occurred in the first half. Mount Union scored first on Bill Andrea's 28-yard field goal early in the first quarter. Later in the quarter, Kusick hit Earp with a 24-yard touchdown pass to put the Eagles ahead 7-3.
Mount Union's Mark Black intercepted a pass by Kusick and returned it 45 yards for a score with just over a minute left in the quarter to put the Purple Raiders back in front 10-7.
The Eagles recaptured the lead 15 seconds into the second quarter on Kusick's second touchdown pass, a 49-yarder to John Barrett to make the score 14-10. Mount Union took a 17-14 lead on Borchert's 9-yard scoring pass to Steve Evans.
What proved to be the winning score came on Kusick's second touchdown pass to Earp, a 41-yarder with 5:22 left in the first half.
Kusick completed 15 of 27 pass attempts for 277 yards with two interceptions. Borchert was 25 for 50 for 252 yards, with one touchdown and two interceptions.
The Eagles' Jason Tarkowski rushed for 102 yards on 18 carries.
Todd Zufra of Mount Union caught 10 passes for 122 yards.
