NEW YORK (AP) _ Roberto Minczuk, co-artistic director of the Sao Paulo State Symphony of Brazil, has been named to the new position of associate conductor of the New York Philharmonic.

``I am delighted that Roberto will be joining the Philharmonic as associate conductor,'' Music Director Lorin Maazel said Tuesday. ``He is a terrific musician, and I am greatly looking forward to this association.''

Minczuk, who is also a French horn player, will conduct the three Concerts in the Boroughs in April and two concerts at the Vail Valley Music Festival in July.

He'll make his official subscription debut in the 2003-04 season, and will serve as cover conductor for 12 weeks.
