Apr. 04, 2014
NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (AP) — A New Bedford High School student has been charged for allegedly throwing a chair at a teacher who had confiscated his cellphone.
Authorities say 18-year-old Kemar Omar Roselus has been charged with assault by means of a dangerous weapon to a person over 60, disturbing the school, and malicious destruction of personal property.
The March 24 incident was caught on video by another student. The chair did not hit the teacher.
School officials say they are disturbed, especially because they did not learn about the chair throwing until a week after it happened.
Roselus was suspended when school officials found out.
His mother tells WFXT-TV her son is a good kid and was very upset and remorseful.
The school has about 2,600 students.
