PATTAYA, Thailand (AP) _ Henrietta Nagyova beat fifth-seeded Ludmila Cervanova 6-2, 7-6 (5) Monday in a match between Slovaks to reach the second round of the Volvo Women's Cup.

Nagyova, the 1997 champion, rallied from a 4-1 deficit in the second set. Her ranking has dropped to No. 116 because of injuries. Cervanova is ranked No. 64.

``It's always tough to play a player from your country because we know each other well,'' Nagyova said.

In the other first-round match, Yuliana Fedak of Ukraine downed Wynne Prakusya 6-3, 6-1 of Indonesia. Top-seeded Tamarine Tanasugarn of Thailand plays Tuesday.
