UTICA, N.Y. (AP) — A 20-year-old central New York man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of a 7-month-old girl.
WKTV reports an investigation by Utica police found that Jason Nieves of Utica, the boyfriend of the infant's mother, caused injuries to the girl's head after she started crying and didn't stop.
Rescue workers in Utica responding to a call Saturday evening found Emelina Sanchez with faint vital signs. The infant was treated locally and then transferred to a children's hospital in nearby Syracuse, where she died early Sunday.
Nieves is being held at Oneida County Jail on $100,000 cash bail. It could not immediately be determined if he has a lawyer.
