Archbishop Egan Has Knee Surgery
Jul. 21, 2000
NEW YORK (AP) _ Archbishop Edward Egan is on the mend after having surgery on his left knee.
Egan had the 1 1/2-hour operation Thursday to repair torn cartilage, said Joseph Zwilling, his spokesman.
Egan, the former bishop of Bridgeport, succeeded the late Cardinal John O'Connor as spiritual leader of New York's 2.4 million Roman Catholics last month.
The 68-year-old archbishop has had knee trouble since last fall, when he twisted his knee.
