KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) _ Western Michigan held Akron to 33 yards rushing and forced three turnovers and the Broncos made Eric Sain's 1-yard TD run stand up for a 7-3 victory over the Zips on Saturday.

Jay McDonagh, who was 18-of-29 for 180 yards with no interceptions, helped set up the lone touchdown for the Broncos (3-3, 2-2 Mid-American Conference). He rushed for 9 yards and passed for 39 on the first possession, including a 33-yard pass to Tony Knox to the 3. Sain scored two plays later.

The Broncos squandered their other scoring chances. They drove to the Zips 4 at the end of the first quarter, but lost 4 yards on third-and-1 and Kevin Knope missed a 25-yard field goal attempt.

Knope also missed attempts from 27 and 25 yards.

The Zips (1-4, 1-3), who got no closer than Western's 34 in the first half, scored on Josef Jakab's 39-yard field goal with 1:08 left in the third quarter.

Mike Junko was 8-of-19 for 75 yards in the first half for the Zips, while Brian Magrell was 12-of-21 for 151 yards with one interception in the second half.

Eddie Alford caught 11 passes for 135 yards for the Zips.
