Jul. 27, 2017
ROSWELL, N.M. (AP) — Authorities say a suspect from northeastern New Mexico is in custody following an exchange of gunfire with Chavez County sheriff's deputies in southeastern New Mexico.
The New Mexico State Police says no injuries were reported in the Wednesday evening incident along U.S. 380 about 35 miles (56.3 kilometers) east of Roswell.
The State Police says 40-year-old Chadwick Taylor of Conchas Dam ran off into nearby sand dunes but was located and arrested by state police officers about 90 minutes after the gunfire was reported.
According to the State Police, Taylor was arrested and jailed on suspicion of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and resisting or evading a police officer.
It's not immediately known whether Taylor has an attorney who could comment on the allegations.
