LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) _ Marques Brigham ran 27 yards for the clinching touchdown and Greg Van Leer returned a fumble 90 yards later in the fourth quarter Saturday, completing Wyoming's 30-10 victory over San Jose State.
The Cowboys (3-1 overall, 2-0 Western Athletic Conference) led only 16-10 when Brigham sparked an eight-play drive to the end zone. Brigham, who finished with 105 yards, had 60 of the 87 in the drive that put the Cowboys on top 23-10 with 10:06 to play.
San Jose State (0-3, 0-1) responded by driving to the Wyoming 10, but the scoring opportunity was squandered when Van Leer picked up a fumbled pitchout and romped 90 yards for a touchdown with 4:27 to play.
Wyoming's first touchdown, a 5-yard pass from Jeremy Silcox to Julian Hooker in the first quarter, followed Jim Talich's fumble recovery and 5-yard return.
Silcox was 14-of-29 for 156 yards and a touchdown.
Brian Brown's interception led to Wyoming's second score of the game, a 44-yard field goal by Cory Wedel, who connected on three of four field goal attempts.
The Spartans' lone touchdown came late in the second quarter on a 5-yard run by James Hodgins. Before leaving in the fourth quarter with a leg injury, he ran for 134 yards in 28 carries. Quarterback Brian Vye was 9-of-18 for 87 yards.
