Whalen Scores 24 Points in Minnesota Win

MADISON, Wis. (AP) _ Lindsay Whalen had 24 points and nine rebounds, and No. 14 Minnesota led virtually all the way in a 59-48 victory Sunday over Wisconsin.
Whalen made 10 of 18 for the Gophers (17-3, 7-3 Big Ten), who shot 42.6 percent. That was well below their average of 51 percent, and the points total was 16 under their norm.
Janel McCarville added 13 rebounds for the Gophers, who controlled the boards 35-28.
Lello Gebisa had 13 points and 11 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season for the Badgers (8-11, 2-7). She had 10 boards in the second half.
Minnesota trailed just once, 13-11 midway through the first half, and got a boost at the end when McCarville scored twice on putbacks. The second tip-in gave the Gophers a 26-19 lead at the break.
Minnesota held Wisconsin to one basket on eight possessions during a six-minute span at the midpoint of the second half. Jamie Broback hit a 3-pointer with 7 minutes, 12 seconds left to give the Gophers a 50-40 lead.
Shannon Schonrock added 10 points for Minnesota. Ashley Josephson had 13 points for Wisconsin.
