JACKSON, Miss. (AP) _ Danny Glover urged Tougaloo College graduates to remember the sacrifices that others have made.
``We stand on shoulders of people whose commitment to freedom was so great that they left plantations with only their belief in God and the stars to guide them,'' Glover said during the 132nd graduation ceremony at the historically black private college near Jackson.
Glover, Avery Franklin Brooks, a theater artist, musician and educator, and Catherine W. LeBlanc received honorary doctoral degrees.
LeBlanc served during the Clinton administration as executive director of the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
Bachelor's degrees were awarded to 158 graduates on Sunday.
