Italian Designer Soprani Dies

MILAN, Italy (AP) _ Italian designer Luciano Soprani has died of cancer at age 53, the ANSA news agency said Sunday.
The report said Soprani had been hospitalized for the past two weeks and died Saturday night.
Although he had been ill for several months, Soprani managed to complete the collection that previewed in September as well as a collection for the January fashion shows in Milan.
Soprani rose through the ranks of the Milan fashion world, working for houses such as Max Mara and Basile. He first presented fashions for men and women under his own name in 1984. Soprani also produced an extensive line of accessories.
He is survived by his ex-wife and a son, according to ANSA. It said a private funeral would be held Tuesday in his hometown of Reggiolo.
