BOBBY BROWN GETS PROCLAMATIONS AS OLD ALLEGATIONS OF VIOLENCE RETURN
ATLANTA (AP) — The mayor of the City of South Fulton, Georgia, says it's appropriate to give honors to Bobby Brown, despite old allegations of domestic violence resurfacing. Bill Edwards says, "If you listen to the person and read between the lines, and you hear him today, that was genuine." Officials from Atlanta and from Fulton County, Georgia, also gave proclamations to Brown yesterday for his intent to build a domestic violence shelter in memory of his daughter, Bobbi Kristina. A site for the shelter has not yet been determined. Brown denied to reporters last week he had ever been violent toward Whitney Houston. He had told ABC two years ago he once hit Houston. Brown's current wife, Alicia Etheredge-Brown, says it's hurtful that the old allegations are coming up again.

MADONNA ASKS FOR BIRTHDAY DONATIONS FOR RAISING MALAWI FOUNDATION
NEW YORK (AP) — Madonna is asking for birthday gifts, not for herself, but as a charitable fundraiser for vulnerable children in Malawi. Madonna is teaming with Facebook to raise money for her Raising Malawi foundation. She turns 60 on Aug. 16. Madonna says she can think of no better gift than to connect her global family with Malawi and "the children who need our help most." She says every dollar will go directly to meals, schools, uniforms and health care. Madonna has four adopted children from Malawi. Her foundation has funded scholarships and built a children's wing at a hospital in that southeastern African nation.

WOODSTOCK DOCUMENTARY SET FOR PBS NEXT SUMMER
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) — PBS will run a documentary about Woodstock next summer that will mark the 50th anniversary of the festival. Executive producer Mark Samels says unlike the 1970 documentary about Woodstock, this one will focus not just on the performers, but on the members of the audience, security guards and local residents. Director Barak Goodman says the counterculture movement's concept of "peace and love" was put to the test with the miserable conditions at Woodstock.
