RENO, Nev. (AP) _ Clayton Johnson scored 26 points including a 3-pointer with four seconds remaining to lift UNLV to a 64-61 victory over Nevada in the Big West Conference Monday.
Johnson's 23-foot shot ended a nine-game road losing streak for the Runnin' Rebels and it was the first time UNLV has defeated the Wolf Pack in the last four meetings.
Jemaine Smith added 15 points for UNLV (10-15, 7-10).
Nevada (16-11, 9-8) was led by Brian Green with 18 points but he failed to score in the final 13 minutes. Daniel Watts, who had a game-high seven rebounds, added 14 points.
Nevada led 55-49 with 7:40 remaining, but the Rebels tied it at 59-59 when Tony Lane sank two free throws with 3:24 left.
Richard Brown scored for Nevada on a drive, but Johnson hit on a jumper from the side to tie it at 61-61 before hitting his sixth 3-pointer of the night.
Brown's 3-point attempt at the buzzer went over the backboard.
Both teams played close during the opening minutes of the game. Chancellor Davis tied it at 11-11 for UNLV with a steal and a layin, but Green led a 12-point Nevada run with nine points to put the Wolf Pack ahead 23-11.
The Rebels rebounded with Johnson hitting three 3-pointers and a jumper during a 13-0 run to pull to 28-27.
Green hit two free throws for Nevada but Kevin James sank a 3-pointer to tie it 30-30 with 2:28 left in the first half.
Watts scored on a free throw to put Nevada up 31-30 but James connected on a free throw and Johnson added another two to give UNLV a 33-31 lead at the half.
