WASHINGTON (AP) _ Maureen Dolphin scored all 6 of her points in a 62-second span in the second half, enabling George Washington to pull away and take an 85-79 decision from No. 24 North Carolina State.
George Washington, which fell out of the Top 25 while being idle last week, improved its record to 4-2. North Carolina State, which made its first poll appearance of the season this week, is also 4-2.
Dolphin's scoring spree began with a basket at 5:30, giving George Washington a 71-70 lead. It was the ninth lead change in a 10-minute span, which also saw the score tied four times.
Dolphin followed with another basket at 5:03, and a pair of free throws at 4:28, giving the Colonials a 75-70 advantage, and the Wolfpack never got closer than three the rest of the way.
George Washington, which trailed 40-35 at the half, took its first lead of the game on a free throw by Myriah Lonergan that made it 48-47 at 15:01.
Darlene Saar led George Washington with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Debbie Hemery had 18 points and seven assists. Jennifer Shasky scored 17, and Martha Williams 15.
North Carolina State was carried in the first half by the outside shooting of Tammy Gibson and Jenny Kuziemski, who combined for 21 points before halftime. They managed only eight in the second half.
