Police: maritime academy student killed in one-car crash

BARNSTABLE, Mass. (AP) — Cape Cod authorities say a 31-year-old Massachusetts Maritime Academy student from South Carolina has been killed in an early morning car crash in Barnstable.
Fire Department Captain Edward Guilford tells the Cape Cod Times (http://bit.ly/1FmySwp) that David Johnson was killed when his vehicle left the road at about 3 a.m. Monday and struck a tree.
Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene, near the intersection of Route 6A and Mary Dunn Road. Police said he was driving a 2000 GMC Yukon.
Police said Johnson, who was from North Charleston, was working part-time on Cape Cod while he attended the maritime academy as an adult commuting student.
The crash remains under investigation.
