Cuban infielder Gurriel has contract terminated by Yokohama

YOKOHAMA, Japan (AP) — The Yokohama DeNA BayStars have terminated the contract of Yulieski Gurriel because the Cuban infielder has not arrived in Japan for the start of the season.
Gurriel was supposed to arrive in Japan at the end of March following the conclusion of Cuba's domestic season, but cited a thigh injury as his reason for not arriving on time.
The BayStars decided to nullify the contract when Gurriel provided no timetable for his arrival or evidence of his injury.
The 30-year-old Gurriel played in 62 games for the BayStars last season while batting .305 with 11 home runs. He has represented Cuba at the Olympics and the World Baseball Classic.
