CLAY, N.Y. (AP) — An Ohio-based company wants to build a 100-acre indoor farm in central New York.
CEA Capital Holdings of Akron has targeted the project for a commerce park in Clay, just north of Syracuse. The idea imagines growing crops inside high-tech buildings, where tomatoes and lettuce can grow year-round.
According to The Post-Standard of Syracuse (http://bit.ly/1OtwNti ), the Central New York Regional Economic Development Council has helped the company land a $1 million state grant and $6.5 million in state tax credits.
Government agencies are making estimates of costs and hiring that are all over the map — from 700 to over 1,000 jobs and a cost of over $300 million.
The company was formed in 2013 and does not appear to have built anything before, the newspaper says.
