LAS VEGAS (AP) _ Two former UNLV football players and one current player are facing charges in connection with a series of purse snatchings near Caesars Palace.
William Yates, Daryl Wright and Frederick Sowerby were booked on charges of strong arm robbery and larceny after police received a call that a tourist had her purse stolen near the hotel.
Police arrested the men as they drove into a dormitory parking lot Sunday.
The larceny charge stems from two separate purse snatchings on Saturday, police said.
Yates quit the team last Wednesday and Wright quit after last season, according to coach Jeff Horton.
ROME (AP) _ The kickoff at Sunday's Italian leagu soccer games will be delayed by five minutes so team captains can make an appeal to fans against violence.
The action was decided by the Italian soccer federation Tuesday as part of an effort to curb hooliganism inside and outside Italian stadiums.
Soccer and other Italian sports events were called off Sunday to provide a day of reflection after the stabbing death of a Genoa fan on Jan. 29.
``We can't restart play as if nothing had happened,'' the president of the Italian Soccer Federation, Antonio Matarrese, said.
VIRGINIA WATER, England (AP) _ Santiago Luna of Spain, who scored his first PGA European Tour victory Sunday at the Madeira Island Open, showed up No. 5 on the tour's money list Tuesday.
Luna earned $66,656 in his first appearance of the season.
Non-tour members Fred Couples and Nick Price continued to head the list. Couples, winner of the first two tournaments, has earned $280,000, while Price has collected $143,845.
NEW YORK (AP) _ To play beach volleyball, you need a beach. So, moving the sport indoors also meant moving a beach indoors. Some 240 tons of locally scooped sand will be used in each of the four stops on the Evian Indoor Pro Beach Volleyball Tour this month.
After Saturday's event in Washington, D.C., the sand from the Patriot Center came in handy. It was given to the municipality for use in sanding the streets after a snowstorm.
Despite the storm, more than 5,000 people were at the arena, which seats 8,000, some possibly drawn by the 80-degree climate created for the competitors who play in shorts and tanktops.
The sand from next Sunday's site, Boston Garden, will be used to help the ecology of an area beach, according to a spokeswoman for the Evian Tour.

The Southern League is moving its Nashville franchise to Wilmington for two years before the franchise shifts to Springfield, Mo., in 1997 on a permanent basis.
