MOSCOW (AP) — Hulk scored the only goal of the game as Zenit St. Petersburg beat Kuban Krasnodar on Saturday, extending its lead at the top of the Russian Premier League to eight points.

Defending champion CSKA Moscow slipped to third after a 2-1 defeat to FC Krasnodar, which climbed to second place.

Hulk's goal took his Russian league tally for the season to eight, making the Brazilian the leading scorer.

He struck on 37 minutes, lashing his own rebounded free kick into Alexander Belenov's goal.

Host Zenit came close to a second goal on several occasions but was denied by Belenov. Kuban could have equalized on 62 minutes but Ibrahima Balde shot wide off a cross from Lorenzo Melgarejo.

CSKA is 10 points off the lead and could drop to fourth on Sunday, depending on the result of Terek Grozny's match with Dynamo Moscow. CSKA goes into Tuesday's home Champions League match against AS Roma on the back of three defeats in Russian league games, its bad form tempered only by a 2-1 win over Manchester City in its last European game.

CSKA was two goals down inside six minutes away to Krasnodar as the hosts' Brazilian forward Ari scored twice. CSKA responded with a 14th-minute goal from Roman Eremenko but, despite pushing forward for the rest of the game, failed to find an equalizer as Krasnodar twice came close to scoring again.

Also Saturday, Rubin Kazan rose to sixth with a 3-1 win over relegation-threatened Ural Yekaterinburg.

Torpedo Moscow left the drop zone with a 2-1 win at home to FC Rostov, which moved into the relegation places in 15th.
