GLEN JEAN, W.Va. (AP) — Authorities say the body of a 56-year-old man who'd gone hiking last week has been found in a national park in West Virginia.
According to the National Park Service, search crews were sent after George Andrew Gross, from Pittsburgh, was reported missing over the weekend. He told family members he planned to hike in and around the New River Gorge National River on Friday afternoon and didn't contact them later.
The cause of death was still under investigation Tuesday. His body was found near the Diamond Point area.
Authorities say his truck was found at the Fern Creek trailhead inside the park on Monday night, and the search was concentrated on the trails and cliffs around there.
State and Fayette County agencies also joined the search.
