Serbia beats Italy to clinch World Cup slot

LJUBLJANA, Slovenia (AP) — Serbia beat Italy 76-64 on Saturday to finish seventh at the European basketball championship and seal a slot at the 2014 World Cup.
Centar Nenad Krstic led Serbia with 17 points, while Nemanja Nedovic, Nemanja Bjelica and Stefan Markovic added 12 apiece.
Serbia led by as much as 19 points and never trailed. Italy got 19 points from Luigi Datome and 14 from Alessandro Gentile.
The World Cup will be held in Spain next year. Spain has a direct place as host, guaranteeing a slot for the top six teams at the European tournament. Spain is playing for the bronze medal against Croatia.
