Veryfine Recalls Spring Water Over Possible Contaminants
Jan. 13, 1996
WESTFORD, Mass. (AP) _ Veryfine Products Inc. recalled gallon jugs of its fluoridated Balsams Spring Baby Water on Friday because of possible bacteria, mold or fungus contamination.
Veryfine said the foil seal beneath the jug's cap allowed relatively harmless airborne contaminants to enter. The company said it has made adjustments to the bottle to fix the problem.
Although the beverage company has received 28 consumer complaints about the run of 1,200 jugs of the spring water, there have been no illnesses reported from the water.
Grocers pulled the gallon jugs of Balsams Spring Baby Water off shelves in the six New England states on Friday, company spokeswoman Jane Gapinski said. Consumers can return the water to the stores where they bought it.
