American goalkeeper Brad Guzan started a Premier League match for the first time in almost two months.
Guzan allowed goals by Ramiro Funes Mori, Aaron Lennon and Romelu Lukaku in a 3-1 loss at home against Everton on Tuesday night. Guzan had not started a league game for the last-place Villans since Jan. 2 at Sunderland.
With Mark Bunn taking over as the No. 1 goalkeeper for seven league games, Guzan was limited to a pair of FA Cup appearances.
Last-place Villa (3-18-7) faces relegation and many fans walked out in the 74th minute as a protest and chanted "We want Lerner out!" a reference to American owner Randy Lerner. Villa, nine points from safety with 10 games left, is likely to be out of the top division for the first time since 1987-88.
Fellow American Tim Howard remained on the bench for Everton. Supplanted by Joel Robles, Howard has not played in any match since Jan. 24.
