TORONTO (AP) _ Outfielder Geronimo Berroa agreed Friday to a minor-league contract with the Toronto Blue Jays that guarantees him $500,000 for next season and was invited to spring training as a non-roster player.

Berroa, 34, spent most of last season with the Detroit Tigers after he was traded by Cleveland. In 52 games with Detroit, the Dominican Republic hit .238 with one homer and 10 RBIs.

Berroa began his career with the Blue Jays in 1984 and had his best season in 1996 with the Oakland Athletics. hitting .290 with 36 homers and 106 RBIs.

In addition to his base salary, Berroa can earn $250,000 in roster bonuses and $1 million in performance bonuses. As part of the agreement, there is a $2.5 million option for 2000 with a $500,000 buyout.
