Apr. 15, 1999
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) _ Target Stores will open 35 new stores in 18 states in October, boosting its total number of stores to 916, company officials said.
Eight of the new stores will be in Pennsylvania. Only one of the new stores will be in Minnesota, Target's home state. That will be in Hutchinson. Two will open in Wisconsin, in Hudson and Grafton.
With the opening of the new stores on Oct. 10, the upscale discount retailer will have 916 stores in 44 states. Last year, Target added 59 new stores.
Target is the largest division and the fastest-growing arm of Minneapolis-based Dayton Hudson Corp., which reported $31 billion in revenues last year.
In addition to Wisconsin, Target will open two new stores Oct. 10 in Florida (Fort Lauderdale, Orlando), Virginia (Richmond, Winchester), North Carolina (Greensboro, Jacksonville), New Hampshire (Concord, Nashua), New York (Greece, Penfield), Georgia (Buford, Newnan), Ohio (Elyria, Polaris), Arizona (Gilbert, Goodyear) and California (Irvine, Walnut Creek).
In addition to Minnesota, six states will get one new store: New Jersey (Bridgewater), Maryland (Salisbury), Indiana (Indianapolis), Missouri (O'Fallon), Montana (Bozeman) and Nevada (Carson City).
Five of the Pennsylvania stores will be in the Pittsburgh area (Greensburg, McCandless, Monroeville, North Fayette, Washington); two in the Philadelphia area (Warrington, Montgomeryville) and one in York.
