ABERDEEN, Miss. (AP) — A man has been accused of shooting at Mississippi police at a traffic checkpoint and fleeing.
News outlets report 40-year-old Kevin Lashawn McMillian has turned himself over to police. Aberdeen interim Police Chief Quinell Shumpert says McMillian was stopped at a checkpoint Saturday night and an officer noticed what looked like marijuana in McMillian's car.
Shumpert says McMillian was ordered out of his car and a pat down was conducted where officers found a .22 caliber handgun. The gun was placed on the hood of the car. Shumpert says McMillian grabbed the gun and fired at officers as he ran away. No one was injured. McMillian's charged with crimes including possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. It's unclear if he has a lawyer.
