PM: Kosovo Serb minister out of cabinet
Feb. 03, 2015
PRISTINA, Kosovo (AP) — Kosovo's Prime Minister Isa Mustafa says a Serb cabinet member has been dismissed for remarks branding ethnic Albanians as savages, which have sparked violent protests.
Mustafa did not take any questions and it remains unclear on what terms Aleksandar Jablanovic, a Kosovo Serb, was sacked from his position as minister for returns and communities, an office that deals mainly with Serb returnees. Jablanovic told Klan Kosova television by phone the decision was "disappointing" and "unacceptable".
After he was dismissed, opposition parties canceled a protest called for Wednesday.
Last week ethnic Albanian protesters demanding Jablanovic's removal clashed with police in the capital Pristina.
Jablanovic's departure could signal a government walkout by Serb coalition partners, Lista Srpska, that are loyal to Serbia. Serbia rejects Kosovo's 2008 secession.
