PARIS (AP) _ Two French airmen who disappeared after driving to the Kuwait-Iraq border five days ago have turned up in Baghdad and were handed over to the International Committee of the Red Cross on Saturday, the Defense Ministry said.
The ministry said the airmen, technical asdsistants to the Kuwaiti air force, would be brought back to Kuwait on Monday.
There had been no word about the two men since Tuesday, when they left Kuwait City in a civilian car without conveying their destination. They were identified as Chief Warrant Officer Jean-Claude Laemle 42, and Warrant Officer Jean-Yves Sanchis, 37.
The Defense Ministry communique provided no details about the men's disappearance or how they ended up in Baghdad.
In July, an American and a British businessman disappeared after straying over the border into Iraq. They were missing about a week, questioned in Safwan, turned over to International Committee of the Red Cross and brought back into Kuwait on July 22.
