Austin police officer shoots, injures stabbing suspect
Dec. 15, 2017
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Austin police say a man suspected of fatally stabbing a woman was injured after being shot by an officer when he refused commands to drop what appeared to be a knife and continued acting aggressively toward the woman.
Interim Chief Brian Manley said a 911 caller on Friday morning said a woman was being stabbed at an apartment complex.
Manley said the arriving officer found the woman on the ground in a courtyard and the man nearby.
He says that after the suspect was shot, officers struggled with the man to get him into custody.
The suspect was taken to a hospital. The woman died at the scene.
Manley says officers did everything they could to "put an end to the threat that this suspect posed to the victim."
