ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) _ Dwight Gooden pitched four shutout innings and George Foster hit a three- run homer in a four-run first inning Sunday to lead the New York Mets to a 5-2 exhibition baseball victory over the St. Louis Cardinals.
Gooden struck out three batters for the Mets, 3-4. Foster followed Daryl Strawberry's run-scoring single with his blast over the left field wall off Kurt Kepshire. The Cardinals are 1-3.
