MOSCOW (AP) _ The International Olympic Committee voted Friday to choose the city that will stage the 2008 Summer Games.
Beijing, the capital of the world's most populous country but burdened by complaints over human-rights abuses, appeared to be the favorite. Other bidders were Paris; Toronto; Istanbul, Turkey; and Osaka, Japan.
IOC members were barred from voting in rounds in which their homeland was a candidate.
The city receiving the fewest votes in each round is eliminated.
