PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — A Maine author spent the afternoon commemorating 4/20 by giving away more than 200 grams of marijuana to a long line of pot fans in Portland's most visible public space.
Author Crash Barry often writes about Maine's cannabis culture. On Thursday, he participated in it by giving away the substance to more than 300 people in Portland's Monument Square.
Barry says he feels it's unfair that not everyone has access to marijuana, which became legal in Maine due to a November referendum. He used up the last of his stash on Thursday by passing a large joint to people who had waited in line.
It's currently legal to grow or give away marijuana for personal use in Maine. It's not legal to sell it or use it in public.
